One more exam left before law school comes to an end! These three years went on so fast for me, I wish I had a year more left. The reason for that is because the bar exam is coming up and I am still looking for post-graduate opportunities. As the bar exam nears, the more nervous I get. Right now, my focus for the next couple of days is on Business Organizations. And then I have a week and a half left before graduation.

After my exam, I thought it might be best to start my bar prep. I will be taking the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) in New York and have decided to take Themis. At my school, Themis has a good pass rate and I have heard good things about it. The thing that I am afraid of is that since it is an online course, I wonder if that will be to my disadvantage, since some of the other bar prep courses are live in the classroom or live online. However, I think this might help me because it will force me to learn the material and test myself.

I have also decided that I will be studying at my law school campus (it is 20-30 minutes away from where I live) and as soon as I get my test location, I will book a hotel room for myself. One thing that I am afraid of is the fact that I am not in the top of my class—rather I am at the bottom, which means that I must make double the effort. Nevertheless, I will keep an optimistic attitude going forward. But first, I need to get my law degree. As many people have told me, law school is a marathon, not a sprint. This may be the same when prepping for the bar exam.

  • Themis is amazing! I did Themis + critical pass + kaplan’s mbe book and passed the Illinois bar the first try. Like you, I was not at the top of my class and therefore knew I needed step up my game. I understood writing wasn’t my strong point, so I worked extra hard to excel on the mbe, (Illinois is 50/50 for essays and mbe). I made sure to stick with the schedule Themis gave me and then did extra mbe questions before and after and went back and made myself learn from my mistakes. On test day I was amazed at how easy the mbe was for me compared to my friends who also took the same exam, (they all passed, they just weren’t confident at the time). It’s brutal, but the email you get saying you passed is hands down the BEST feeling in the world. Good luck!
